Frequently asked questions
Where do my files go?
Conversions run on your server. OpenFormat is built for self-hosting, so uploads and outputs should remain within your network boundary according to how you deploy and configure storage.
Do I need LibreOffice or FFmpeg?
Many conversions work with bundled .NET libraries alone. Some formats work best—or only—when optional tools like LibreOffice, Inkscape, or FFmpeg are installed and enabled in your environment.
Is there a file size limit?
Limits depend on your host: memory, CPU, request timeouts, and reverse proxy settings typically matter more than the app itself. Tune your server and gateway for the workloads you expect.
Can I use this commercially?
OpenFormat stitches together open-source components; verify each dependency’s license for your use case. Your deployment, branding, and support model are yours to define.
Something failed—what should I check?
Confirm the conversion pair is supported for your backend configuration, that optional tools are on the PATH if required, and that the input file isn’t corrupted or password-protected in a way the pipeline cannot handle.
